Surgery

For the team at Perimeter Veterinary Center, surgery is a normal part of our day to day activities. We understand, however, that while surgery may be commonplace for us, it’s not something you and your pet have to deal with very often. That’s why we work so hard to ensure that each procedure performed at our hospital is as safe and stress-free an experience as possible. Rest assured that when you bring your companion to us for surgery, he or she will be in caring, capable hands with our dedicated team!

Our doctors are highly skilled and experienced in performing a broad range of procedures, using the most up to date equipment and techniques, and always adhering to the highest standards of care. From the safe and effective pain control products we use to our state of the art surgical suite, to the advanced monitoring equipment we use to manage our patients’ wellbeing, you can feel confident that your pet will receive the highest quality surgical care with us!

Before we begin…

From the moment the veterinarian recommends surgery for your pet, we’ll begin taking every precaution to ensure that the procedure is performed as safely as possible. Your pet will be carefully screened to determine if he or she has any special needs or unique risks that we must account for. That way we can proactively plan to manage those risks and address those special needs to provide for a smooth, uneventful surgical experience.

Prior to surgery, we’ll evaluate your pet to determine what pain management protocol would best suit his or her needs. The goal is to keep your companion as comfortable as possible, while also minimizing the risks associated with anesthesia. Your pet’s pain control will be specifically customized and tailor-made just for them. Pain medication will then be carefully administered by our well trained veterinary technicians and monitored throughout for optimum results.

During your pet’s surgery…

Once your pet has been safely placed under anesthesia, we will work diligently to perform the procedure as quickly and efficiently as possible. While the veterinarian works on your pet, our experienced support staff will closely monitor your companion’s wellbeing using the most modern equipment available. We’ll make sure that your pet’s heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels and pain control remain right where they should be at all times. Each pet has an intravenous catheter placed so we can administer fluids to maintain hydration and blood pressure, as well as administer any medications needed. We also monitor temperature and every pet is on a continuous ECG.

After surgery…

When the procedure is complete, your pet will be carefully moved to our peaceful recovery area, where we will continue to monitor them as they begin to awake from anesthesia. A member of our team will reach out to you to explain how the surgery went, discuss any findings, answer your questions and arrange a time for you to pick up your pet. When you arrive, we’ll go over any aftercare instructions we may have, which may also include an appropriate pain management plan to help your companion recover as comfortably as possible at home.

Help is only a phone call away…

Once you return home with your pet, should any questions or concerns about the surgery or aftercare arise, please do not hesitate to call us. No question is too small or insignificant when it comes to caring for your cherished companion.

If your pet needs surgery, you needn’t worry. The team at Perimeter Veterinary Center is here to assist with all of your needs. We’ll have your companion fixed up and on the mend in no time!
